Paweł Konik – baritone

Polish baritone born in Cieszyn.

Paweł Konik is one of the most promising Polish baritone of his generation.

In September 2020 Paweł was lucky enough to perform Le bal masque by Poulenc during the BridgingArts Festival in Nürnberg.
This was his only public appearance in COVID season 2020/21 so far.

In artistic season 2019/20 Paweł made role debuts as Andrey Shchelkalov in Mussorgsky’s Boris Godunov, Moralès in Bizet’s Carmen and Sam in Bersntein’s Trouble in Tahiti.

Previous seasons included role debuts as Harlekin from Strauss’s Ariadne auf Naxos, Marullo from Verdi’s Rigoletto,  Alidoro in Rossini’s La Cenerentola, , Hermann in Offenbach’s Les Contes d’Hoffmann, II Offizier in Henze’s Der Prinz von Homburg, and I Soldat from Salome by Strauss. He returned as well to Opera Śląska for his debut as Mercutio in Gounod’s Roméo et Juliette and made a house debut at Opera Nova with the same role. At at Opera na Zamku in Szczecin Paweł appeared for the first time as Guglielmo in Mozart’s Cosi fan tutte.

Paweł Konik performed as well at Dutch National Opera, Baltic Opera, Wroclaw Opera, and during The Brighton Festival, and The Verbier Festivals. He appeared in concerts with The Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra in Katowice, The Polish Radio Orchestra, The New Music Orchestra, The Silesian Philharmonic, Arte dei Suonatori, and Les Talens Lyriques.

During studies at The Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music Paweł Konik started working with the Baltic Opera in Gdansk, where he made his debut in January 2013 as Shvochniev in Shostakovitsh/Meyer “The Gamblers” for which he received a Jan Kiepura’s Drama Music Award in the category of BEST SINGER’S DEBUT.

Until end of December 2016th Paweł was a member of the prestigious Yale Opera Program where he worked with Doris Yarick-Cross and Richard Cross.

He is a Winner of The Third Prize at the Gerda Lissner Foundation IVC 2016 in New York, Grant Winner at the Licia Albanese-Puccini Foundation IVC 2016 and Giulio Gari Foundation IVC 2016. Received The Special Prize for best interpretation of Russian aria at Le Grand Prix de L’Opera in Bucharest. In November 2012 he was awarded the Second Prize at the 10-th Polish Artistic Song Competition in Warsaw. In 2011 he won the First Prize at the 13-th Imrich Godin International Vocal Competition IUVENTUS CANTI in Vrable, Slovakia.

Paweł was honored to work and perform with Bassem Akiki, Pierre Audi, Rune Bergmann, Michał Biel, Linda Brovsky, Andrzej Chyra, Charles Dutoit, Christine Goerke, Giuseppe Grazioli, Ted Huffman, Michał Klauza, Alexander Liebreich, Wojciech Michniewski, Wiesław Ochman, Ewa Podleś, Gerhard Siegel, Claudia Solti, Ewa Strusińska, Romuald Tesarowicz, Marek Toporowski, Marek Weiss and Janusz Wiśniewski Michał Znaniecki.

He was a member of the Akademia Operowa at the Teatr Wielki – Polish National Opera in Warsaw where he studied with Izabela Kłosińska, Matthias Rexroth and Eytan Pessen.

Paweł Konik received artistic scholarships from the Major of Cieszyn and Zygmunt Zaleski Stichting.

He currently continues studying under mentorship of Eytan Pessen.
