Paweł Konik – baritone
Polish baritone born in Cieszyn.
Paweł Konik is one of the most promising Polish baritone of his generation.
During artistic season 2021/22 Paweł will make his role debuts as Faninal in Strauss’s masterpiece Der Rosenkavalier, Donner in Wagner’s Das Rheingold, and Jupiter in Rameau’s Platée, and will as well revisit Albert in Massenet’s Werther.
Concert engagements will include his recital debut at Chopin and his Europe Festival. Paweł will present Raoul Koczalski’s songs which he recently rediscovered.
His operatic repertoire includes such roles as Guglielmo in Mozart’s Cosi fan tutte, title roles in DonGiovanni, and Le nozze di Figaro, Albert in Massenet’s Werther, Andrey Shchelkalov in Mussorgsky’s Boris Godunov, Sam in Bernstein’s Trouble in Tahiti, Harlekin from Strauss’s Ariadne auf Naxos, Alidoro in Rossini’s La Cenerentola, Mercutio in Gounod’s Romeo et Juliette, Moralès in Bizet’s Carmen, Marullo from Verdi’s Rigoletto, among the others.
Previous seasons where filled with productions at Dutch National Opera, Baltic Opera, Wroclaw Opera, Opera Śląska in Bytom, Opera na Zamku in Szczecin, appearances at The Verbier Festival, and The Brighton Festival well as concerts with The Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra in Katowice, The Polish Radio Orchestra in Warsaw, The New Music Orchestra and The Silesian Philharmonic.
Paweł Konik graduated from The Yale University School of Music Opera Program where he worked with Doris Yarick-Cross and Richard Cross.
During studies at The Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music he started working with the Baltic Opera in Gdansk, where he made his debut in January 2013 as Shvochniev in Shostakovitsh/Meyer “The Gamblers” for which he received a Jan Kiepura’s Music Award in the category of Best Singer’s Debut.
Paweł Konik is a Winner of The Third Prize at the Gerda Lissner Competition 2016 in New York, Grant Winner at the Licia Albanese-Puccini Competition 2016 and Giulio Gari Competition 2016. Received The Special Prize at Le Grand Prix de L’Opera in Bucharest.
Paweł was also awarded a prestigious Horatio Parker Memorial Prize by Yale University.
Paweł was honoured to work and perform with Bassem Akiki, Pierre Audi, Rune Bergmann, Michał Biel, Linda Brovsky, Andrzej Chyra, Charles Dutoit, Christine Goerke, Giuseppe Grazioli, Vlad Iftinca, Ted Huffman, Stephan Kimmig, Michał Klauza, Tomasz Konieczny, Alexander Liebreich, Lise Lindstrom, Stefan Margita, Wiesław Ochman, Marc Piollet, Ewa Podleś, Gerhard Siegel, Claudia Solti, Romuald Tesarowicz, Marek Weiss, Michał Znaniecki.
He was a member of the Akademia Operowa at the Teatr Wielki – Polish National Opera in Warsaw where he studied with Izabela Kłosińska, Matthias Rexroth and Eytan Pessen.
Paweł Konik received artistic scholarships from the Major of Cieszyn and Zygmunt Zaleski Stichting.
Since artistic season 2018/19 Paweł Konik is a a member of the ensemble of the Staatsoper Stuttgart.
